The Zorvanu Listening Lab

Turn a first impression
into something useful.

Two small tools for music listeners who want more than another “best songs” list. Keep specific listening notes, build your own order, and take the result with you. No registration. No audio upload.

01 / Listen and notice

Listening notebook

Keep the recording's edition, timestamped observations, first impressions and replay notes in one place. Separate an audible detail from your interpretation instead of losing both inside a score.

Open the notebook

Optional browser save. Text and JSON export. Print-ready notes.

02 / Compare and explain

Ranking workbench

Choose from sixteen journal shortlists or paste your own tracks. Compare two songs at a time, adjust the final order, and write the reason behind a close decision.

Build your ranking

Manual and paired sorting. CSV, text and JSON export. No public votes.

Use the tools together

Start with a record rather than a score. In the notebook, identify the version and choose one question: what connects the songs, where does a transition change the mood, or what makes a chorus memorable? Keep your first response separate from the replay note.

Then take a shortlist to the ranking workbench. A high placement should have a reason you can explain using those observations. When two songs trade places, the note can preserve why. Nothing is sent to the editor, and your result does not modify the journal's published opinion.

A concrete route through the site

Read the Nirvana album guide to choose a release and identify its edition. Use the notebook while listening. Afterward, load the Nevermind shortlist and compare your ordering with the journal's ranking. The disagreement is useful when both sides give a reason.

For a different exercise, use the cover-comparison worksheet. Keep recognition, arrangement and personal associations in separate notes. This helps explain why a radically changed version is not automatically a more convincing one.

Local tools, honest limits

These workspaces organise writing and preferences. They do not recognise audio, calculate objective music quality or manufacture crowd ratings. Save on this device keeps one draft per tool in your browser. Export JSON to preserve multiple sessions or move between devices.

The two workspaces do not load advertising scripts or analytics. Your typed fields are not uploaded by the tool code. Clearing browser data can remove saved copies, so keep an exported backup when the notes matter. See privacy and storage and the site change log.

Read the method before the verdict

A first-listen routine keeps the exercise small. The review worksheet shows how to turn a reaction into an accountable paragraph. The edition checklist helps make the comparison reproducible.
