Listening Lab / 01
Keep the moment.
Not just the score.
A listening notebook for the details that disappear between plays. Identify your edition, separate what you hear from what you think, and compare your first impression with a replay.
Your listening record
Nothing is saved automatically. “Save on this device” keeps one draft in this browser, not in a Zorvanu account. Export a JSON backup to move between devices.
Timestamped observations
Up to 40 observations. Use the timestamp shown by your own player; this notebook does not synchronise with it.

How to make this notebook useful
Start with a question narrow enough to test. “Is this album good?” makes every detail compete for attention. “What makes the final chorus feel different?” gives the next listen a job. You can broaden the conclusion after you have a few concrete observations.
Keep the edition field even when the version is unclear. “Edition not stated, release link copied from my player” is more useful than silently assuming a remaster, studio take or live recording. A timestamp only makes sense in relation to the recording that produced it.
The first-impression and replay fields are separate on purpose. The tool does not overwrite an early reaction with a later one. Use them to show a genuine change, including a change toward liking a record less. It is equally valid to record that a second listen did not resolve your uncertainty.
A blank worksheet without JavaScript
Copy the following prompts into your own notes app or onto paper. The method does not depend on this tool.
Recording: artist, album, edition and source.
Question: one thing to listen for.
Passage: track name and approximate timestamp.
Observation: what changes in the sound?
Interpretation: what does that change do for you?
Replay: which part of the initial note held up?
Next step: revisit, compare, explore or leave it for now.
Before you rely on a saved draft
Is it saved when I close the tab?
Only after you choose “Save on this device.” There is one saved notebook per browser profile and website origin. Clearing site data, private browsing, device changes or storage restrictions can remove or prevent that copy. Export JSON for a portable backup.
Can the site hear the album or recognise a song?
No. The notebook does not request microphone access, accept audio, analyse a waveform or connect to a streaming account. All observations are yours. It is a writing tool, not an audio detector.
Can I restore an exported text file?
Text export is for reading and sharing. Use the JSON backup for a complete restore of the editable fields. Imported JSON is validated, and malformed or oversized files are rejected.
Does this make my notes public?
No. Local save and export do not publish anything. You control whether to send a downloaded file to anyone else. Do not put passwords or sensitive personal information in a listening notebook.
